A Home Rediscovered

A Home Rediscovered

Home Transformation

An ageing, enclosed kitchen was transformed into a bright, open heart of the home. The chimney, now clad in warm brick, became the calm centre around which cooking, dining and everyday life now flow.

Entrance Hall

Entrance Hall

The entrance hall followed the same principle: preserve what gives the home character and change what no longer works. A distinctive existing floor was originally going to be covered, but instead it became the starting point for the new colour palette.

The wall colour was chosen to work with the floor, while the original timber doors, an antique cabinet and a marble-topped chest were retained. Repositioning the furniture opened the sightline through the hall, and additional light helped the floor and the room itself feel brighter and more intentional.

What was once mainly a passage is now also a place to pause, read and look out towards the garden.

Living Room

Living Room

Once the kitchen and dining area had been transformed, the living room no longer felt in tune with the rest of the home. The glossy timber-panelled ceiling was softened with a matt finish, while selected areas were visually quietened and five dimmable linear LED lights were introduced to create a calmer rhythm overhead.

The fireplace wall was simplified, additional dimmable wall lights added atmosphere, and the television, sofa and reading light were repositioned around the way the room is actually used. An inherited artwork and an antique cabinet were kept and given a stronger place within the new scheme.

This home was not reinvented. It was rediscovered. Existing elements with character were kept, re-read and combined with new function so the house could feel more open, comfortable and connected to the way its owners live today.
